The Key to Salvation: A Sufi Manual of Invocation (Golden Palm)
Published in Hardcover by International Specialized Book Services (October, 1995)
Author: Mary Koury-Danner
Average review score:

The Master!
This book is too expensive, but if you can find it at a lesser price, get the book. Although it is in question as to if this is REALLY an Ibn Ata'ullah text, the teacher who I studied this book did not say it was not, as well, he had the original in Arabic..hummm...

certainly, this text is beautiful, easy to read. Although it is not your normal sufi text. This book offers solutions to your problems with prayer, worshiping Allah, and remembrance of Him. Have a problem with wondering off in wherever land when you pray? Wonder why when you make remembrance of Him (dhikr) your heart does not "feel" like it is there?

This book offers many great antedotes to common problems why we face these delemas in our worship-they have become only for show. and not sincere! This book is for those who need some direction into how to worship Allah, help your heart, and soften it! Salafi's I highly recommend it because have you ever wondered why you condem every Muslim who wants to Worship Allah as though you see him? This texts will open new doors to softening the hearts of the dryest person!

Key to the Golden Dog

Authors: Anne Capeci and Don Adair

I could not put the book down!
This book is one of my favorite Wishbone books. It's Oakdale history month, and every one wants to help celebrate the event! Even the mysterious Carl Ottinger pitches in by allowing Pepper Pete's Pizza Parlor to display his treasured antique model railroad system. Then, suddenly the valuable steam engine vanishes! Mr. Ottinger spreads the word about Pepper Pete's lack of security. All the bad publicity could signal the end for Wishbone's fovorite pizza parlor!"What no more breadsticks or pepperoni?" Wishbone asks."Somebody has to do something!" Wishbone, Samantha Kepler, and their friends must crack the case before its to late for Pepper Pete's. However, they soon learn that the missing steam engine is only one piece in the large puzzle whose key lies in a missing golden dog... The book also has a very suprising ending. This book is a must for every Wishbone book collecter or someone who just want to read a good story.

Kierkegaard in Golden Age Denmark (Indiana Series in the Philosophy of Religion)
Published in Hardcover by Indiana University Press (November, 1900)
Author: Bruce H. Kirmmse
Average review score:

Kierkegaard in context
Kirmmse's book is an attempt to place Kierkegaard in the Politcal, social and religious context of early 19th century Danish Society. There are chapters on the major characters constantly referred to in SK's book. There are chapters on Gruntvig, Martinsen, Heiberg and, of course, Mynster. The major emphasis in the his discussion of SK, himself is: why was Concluding Unscientific Postscript not his last book as he planned it to be? The second half of the book is a wonderful exploration of the "second authorship." a great read.

King Arthur, the Dream of a Golden Age (Art and Imagination)
Published in Paperback by Thames & Hudson (June, 1990)
Author: Geoffrey Ashe
Average review score:

The Greatest King of All
This book is an exciting introduction to the Arthurian legends. In the opening essay, Geoffrey Ashe traces the historical development of the King Arthur story from its ancient Celtic origins to recent archeological evidence. Ashe underscores Arthur's potency as an archetype: "Arthur symbolizes a deeply rooted factor of human nature" (p. 32). In the second part of the book, the artistic representations of Arthur and related figures tease out some of the ambiguities in this rich system of legends. In the final section, "Themes", Ashe uses text and images to show the parallels of Arthur in other cultures and the echoes of the myth in the modern age.

The King in the Golden Mask
Published in Paperback by Carcanet Press Ltd (April, 1985)
Authors: Marcel Schwob and Iain White
Average review score:

The love of language and all that it means.
I found Schwob via Jarry. This makes the whining of chain-shot heard. The sonorous voice of storms patter. The freedom of those enslaved realized, if only in the beautiful lamentation of their song. This book made my soul sing.

A Koala Grows Up
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (November, 1987)
Author: Rita Golden Gelman
Average review score:

Non-fiction that reads like a good piece of literature.
A wonderful tale of the life cycle of the koala and its habitat. The tale is told in such a way that you are left with a warm loving feeling. This is rare in a piece of non-fiction for children. As a teacher I have used this book to teach children how to write a good non-fiction story as well as to show them the difference between fiction and non-fiction picture books. I would compare "A Koala Grows Up" with "Koala Lu" by Mem Fox. I was very disappointed to find that this title was out of print. I hope the author will find a way to have this title printed again.

Korea's Golden Age: Cultural Spirit of Silla in Kyongju

Author: Edward B. Adams
Average review score:

Comprehensive, reliable, and fascinating
An exhaustive account of the architectural and cultural heritage of Korea's Kyongju valley region, illustrated with stunning and provocative pictures by the author. This book is amazingly comprehensive--the author manages to grasp the usually elusive interplay between architecture and mythology that books of this type generally miss.
